Extra Extra!!!

Extra Extra - Read all About it!

You may have overlooked the article in the Index-Journal last week featuring esthetician, April Anderson! If you didn't have a chance to see it, we have an excerpt from the article which details ways that you can protect your skin during the harsh, winter months.(1247)

April Anderson, an esthetician with Skin Essentials Day Spa on Waller Avenue in Greenwood, says appropriate moisturization, exfoliation and daily use of a sunscreen with at least a sun protection factor of 15, is vital for protecting skin, no matter the season or the weather.Sun exposure, Anderson said, is the biggest culprit behind premature aging of the skin.To protect skin during winter, The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher to all exposed skin. The Skin Cancer Foundation also recommends wearing a hat, lip balm and sunglasses, in addition to sunscreen. Smoking is also highly damaging to the skin, Anderson said."Your skin reflects your overall health and well-being," Anderson said. "Skin that’s well taken care of functions better and looks better."In addition to choosing the right products to protect your skin, Anderson advocates "eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep.""Eating right provides your skin with the vitamins and minerals it needs," Anderson said. "Drinking water eliminates toxins from the skin. Exercise stimulates blood flow and cell repair to the skin increases while you sleep."

Guys Pucker Up
Do you find yourself continually applying lip balm, but your lips remain chapped? Maybe it's time to look at the ingredients in your favorite balm. Most balms are made almost entirely out of wax, which creates a barrier that keeps moisture in. This can feel great for a small period of time, but will not cure your chapped lips. Jane Iredale makes a lip balm for men called "HE Lip Balm" that gently exfoliates your lips while rehydrating them at the same time. It's the perfect answer to your lip woes!(9683) The balm retails for $10.00 and is available at the Skin Essentials
Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can be the answer to erasing fine lines, wrinkles, and sun damage from your skin! It can literally take years off your face! Since microdermabrasion uses vacuum pressure and aluminum oxide crystals to remove the first layer of your epidermis, it is imperative to stay out of the sun after receiving treatments.(4245) For this reason, winter is the best time of year to have this treatment done. To achieve the best results, we recommend having a series of treatments. As an added bonus we have lowered our cost per treatment to $90!!!
*(Everyone is not a candidate for Microdermabrasion, so please schedule a consultation with April before scheduling a treatment.)
